Hunting for Wild Asparagus (thanks to a Greek tip š)

Walking among the olive trees in Greece is already nice on its own. But it gets even better when you know where to look⦠because there, hidden between the bushes, wild asparagus grows. And trust me: once youāve found them, youāre hooked.
It all started with a tip from Greek friends. Something like: āJust keep an eye along the paths, they grow there.ā No detailed explanation, no map⦠just a hint. So I went out to explore on my own.
The first time? Zero success. I looked, searched, stared⦠but only saw bushes. Until the moment my Greek friends actually showed me where to look. āHere, do you see that?ā And yes ā once you know, you suddenly start seeing them everywhere. Thin green shoots, a bit like mini Christmas trees.
The next day I went back, this time on my own. And suddenly it worked. As if my eyes had finally adjusted. It quickly turned into a bit of an Easter egg hunt, but in nature š
Picking them is also a small adventure. They often grow hidden between thorny plants, so yes, youāll get the occasional little scratch. But thatās part of the fun. Every find feels like a small win.
What I love most is how simple it is. You walk, you look around, you discover something new. No plan needed. Just being outside and staying a bit curious.
And then the best part: eating them. Back home, just sautĆ© them in some olive oil, add an egg, and thatās it. It really doesnāt need more than that. The taste is a bit stronger than regular asparagus, slightly bitter, but really delicious.
Since that tip, I never walk through olive groves the same way again. Always scanning a little⦠you never know ššæ
